Salt water lakes, salt water springs and wells are found in almost every country. The largest salt lake in the world is the Great Salt Lake. Salt Lake, located in Central Anatolia, is one of the most important salt lakes in the world. Salt taken from salt lakes is almost pure.
Salinity in the lake may also be due to other salts. For example, the presence of sodium sulphate, potash and similar salts together with sodium chloride in many lakes in Central Anatolia makes it difficult to produce salt economically from these sources.

Examples of these are Burdur Lake and İznik Lake.
